Do They Actually Work?
By Tom Nicoli, BCH, CI
Anyone who has even half an open mind, has learned the facts and is willing to trust scientific and medical research, knows that hypnosis is real. And it's a natural process so therefore it is safe and is highly effective. But what about hypnosis CDs, do they really work? Good question.
Hypnosis CDs, created by an experienced hypnotism professional and of quality, are very effective for directing an individual to desired personal change. The key here is the person's desire to change. Too often people enter into a hypnosis program or use hypnosis CDs without a real commitment or desire to change. They are misled into thinking that hypnosis is magic and voila, all their problems are gone. It's not like that.
By delivering positive suggestions formed in a way that is more welcoming to the subconscious mind, hypnosis CDs, when used as suggested, can assist and guide an individual toward the emotional and behavioral changes they desire. The suggested use varies among professionals but generally it is suggested to listen daily either once or twice. If twice, leave time in between the listening sessions. Most people, for a few different reasons, find starting their day and ending their day with listening to the hypnosis CD fits best.
What you can expect is to spend anywhere between 15 and 30 minutes listening with a pair of headphones in a place where you will not be disturbed. During this time the hypnotist on the CD will guide you into a more relaxed state, usually accompanied by soothing, relaxing music and sounds. After this section the hypnotist delivers suggestions based on the changes the CD is titled to direct, during which time the listener engages their imagination to imagine they are already acting in the healthy behaviors. This is because the subconscious mind is directed through imagery. Even Albert Einstein had said, "Imagination is more important than knowledge." By following the imagery created through the suggestions of the hypnotist on the CD the subconscious begins to shift patterns and make changes. The last part of the CD is what is called the emergence. The hypnotist will typically count from one to five with suggestions of becoming more alert and aware.
Not everyone consciously hears everything on the CD. Some people drift into a deep daydream state or even more deeply relaxed and their conscious awareness drifts so they "think" they don't hear the CD but in actuality they do - subconsciously. They may even think they fell asleep. My only question when this happens is, "Did you respond when you heard number 5, eyes open"? If so, you most likely didn't go to sleep but were doing it just right.
So the next time you want to get out of old ruts and bad habits and kick start healthy habits to be healthy and happy, sit back relax and use hypnosis CDs in the privacy of your own home whenever you schedule the session.
